This C1816AE cartridge is manufactured by HP and is good for approx 212 pages. It comes with a 1 Year warranty, and is designed to work with printers that use HP C1816AE cartridges. What is the HP photo cartridge?* The HP 16 photo print cartridge is a tri-chamber print cartridge. It contains a lighter shade (low dye-load) of magenta ink, a lighter shade (low dye-load) of cyan ink, plus a full dye-load of dye-based black ink. It produces smaller ink drops than the current color and black print cartridges. How to use the HP photo cartridge The HP photo print cartridge is inserted in place of the black cartridge and works in conjunction with the color cartridge. The net result is that a total of six colors of ink are now available to produce color images rather than four. A storage container is provided for the HP photo print cartridge when it is not in use. When the HP photo print cartridge is in use, the black print cartridge should be stored in the storage container. Use of the storage container will optimize the life of the print cartridge. When should the HP photo print cartridge be used? Whenever high quality color images are printed. The HP photo print cartridge should not be used when printing a page of black text as it contains dye-based black ink rather than pigment-based black ink. This would have an adverse effect on print quality. Print speed would also degrade as the black cartridge has 48 nozzles to produce black ink drops while the HP photo print cartridge has only 16 nozzles to produce black ink drops. Also, the cost per page would dramatically increase because the HP photo print cartridge would quickly run out of black ink. When color images and black text are combined on the same page, the user must decide whether to optimize the black text by using the black cartridge or the color image by using the HP photo print cartridge. What is MDL technology? MDL technology is the utilization of additional shades of ink in order to achieve improved output quality of color images. The amount of dye load in ink has to do with the amount of colorant put in it. The less colorant the lighter shade of ink. Conversely, the more colorant, the darker the shade of ink. A name for MDL technology: Photo REt MDL technology is a new technology to Inkjet printers. It provides superior photo-quality color images without increasing dpi. HP recognizes that end users will be most interested in the benefit of Photo REt, namely photo-quality color, not the name itself. How does Photo REt differ from C-REt? C-REt (color resolution enhancement technology) utilizes smaller color ink drops to print smaller color dots on the page. The benefit to the customer is improved color image output. Photo REt (photo resolution enhancement technology) also utilizes smaller color ink drops via the HP photo cartridge. However, the HP photo cartridge also provides two additional colors of ink. The smaller ink drops, in combination with two new colors of ink, take the color image quality of the Deskjet 690c to the next level.
